Something must be done about the Clewiston Middle School

Gordon Swaggerty

Assistant Superintendent

Clewiston Area

Dear Mr. Swaggerty,

I am expecting a response. I have tried to contact the Richard A. "Rick" Murphy, Superintendent by both phone, email and US mail and he has failed to respond. I have also contact each and every board member by regular mail, and one by phone regarding the abuses my son is suffering at the Clewiston Middle School. None of these individuals have responded. Since my last letter which I have enclosed for you, I have had the opportunity to meet with the Principal. I am even more concerned since that meeting since he flat out lied to me and then called my son a liar, to his face and mine.

He insured me that my son’s grades would not be affected by the days he missed. Not true, his science project was docked 10 points because he could not present it at the fair because he was suspended. That brought his grade from an A to a B.

He also told me that the Assistant Superintendent never uses foul language and that he specifically knew he did not on the occurrence we were discussing because he was standing right there. Not true, he was on the other side of the cafeteria; no way could he have heard it. There were lots of witness that heard what he said, and lots of witness that could tell you where they were both standing. And there are a ton of students and parents both past and present that can attest to his use of foul language.

What I expect, as clarified in my first letter is

1) I want the paperwork on why he was suspended changed; the way it is worded suggests something else and I do not want that in his record. If it spelled out what Mr. Johnson said he did and what my son admitted to which is pushing a girl then I will be satisfied on that point

2) I want a formal apology from Mr. Johnson to my son for his language and an apology to me for lying to me about it. I would also suggest anger management and social skills training for him.

3) I want an investigation as to how decisions are made as to who and for how long someone is suspended looked into and I want it generalized so that it is the same for everyone

4) I want to be invited and called to every meeting or discussion that the administration has regarding my son, no exceptions

5) I want to make sure that my son is given the opportunity to make up anything that might have been missed and effect his grades for the day missed. I will be watching this closely.

6) I want to make sure that my child is safe and is treated fairly in school, along with every other child at the school

Now I also want:

7) I want an apology from Mr. Garry Ensor for lying to me and my son and an apology to my son for calling him a liar.

8) I want his grade adjusted so that it is not affected by his absence, as I was guaranteed!

Update on the battle with Middle School

Well, I met with the principal of Clewiston Middle, he admitted the girl who incited the entire incident was suspended for only half of a day, and that he thought every one's punishment was fair. He also stated he has never ever heard Mr. Johnson, the vice Principal ever use profanity or any other member of his staff. Well, as I informed him, that is easily disputed. When I had my son tell him what he said, I followed by asking him if he was calling my son a liar, and he "Yes I am saying he is a liar". However when I raised my eyebrows he began backpedaling and stated that, well maybe he thought he heard that. I shared that there are enough people in Clewiston and the middle school that his claims can easily be dismissed.

The lack of respect he shows is uncanny. He also promised me that my son's grades would not be effected provided my son did all his make up work. Another lie, as my son brought home a zero on the part of his science project that was for presentation this afternoon, because he was not there to present the project which had been completed and turned in before these suspensions ever occurred.

He showed a total unwillingness to meet half way, so it is up to me to follow up with taking it to the next level and beyond if needed.
